20 april 2010 14:47 Ukraine, Russia to consider possibility of joint construction of Black Sea grain terminal
Ukraine and Russia will consider possibility of joint construction of the Black Sea grain terminal, Agrarian Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said at a meeting with Russian Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik.

He noted that this issue was discussed at a meeting that took place within the frames of the Russian-Ukrainian Agrarian Commission. At the same time, setting up of an end-to-end railway tariff to reduce expenses for grain transportation via territories of Russia and Ukraine.

Realization of such a task, according to Prysiazhniuk, will allow both countries to be competitive on foreign grain markets.

In her turn, Skrynnik noted that in the nearest future probable food balances of Russia and Ukraine will be signed. An increase in turnover of agricultural goods of both countries will make a basis of these balances.

Prysiazhniuk noted that the balances are aimed at ensuring food security of Ukraine and Russia. "We specified that after ensuring food security of our countries and observance of balances of food markets, we will consider an issue on joint entering foreign markets," he said pointing out to a great potential of agricultural lands and agricultural production of both countries.

The Russian Agriculture Minister added that within the frames of cooperation in the agrarian sphere of Russia and Ukraine, expansion of cooperation in the sphere of seed growing will be needed, a strategy will be worked out for joint development of agricultural policies of both countries, as well as joint commissions will be set to inspect the enterprises processing meat and milk for increasing mutual supplies of these products.
