United States notes vigorous start of reforms in Ukraine
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft has noted a vigorous start to reforms in Ukraine at a meeting with Ukrainian Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych.
"If the development of reforms continues in this vein, it will promote a positive image of Ukraine in the United States and Europe," the diplomat said.
Tefft also noted a vigorous start of work of the presidential committees, in particular, the committee on economic reforms. He said that the United States was ready to make its contribution to the implementation of these reforms. The ambassador said that during the recent meeting between Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and U.S. President Barack Obama, the latter promised his full support to Ukraine on the path of reforms.
During his meeting with the justice minister, Tefft also raised several questions about prospects for the implementation of judicial reform. He also said the sphere of public procurement in Ukraine required a speedy legislative settlement.
Tefft stressed the need to reform criminal justice in Ukraine. The sides also spoke about the holding of a conference on the reform of criminal justice in Kyiv in May.
