28 april 2010 11:47 As WTO member Ukraine cannot join Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan customs union - Yanukovych
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, asked by European MPs at the PACE session in Strasbourg Tuesday, said that, having already joined the World Trade Organization, Ukraine cannot form a customs union with Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

"Ukraine has made her choice in favor of accession to the WTO. Ukraine is integrated with the WTO," Yanukovych said adding participation in a customs union with Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan is impossible because the WTO laws do not allow that.

Yanukovych said the creation of a free trade zone with the European Union is within the sphere of Ukraine's national interests. "We have taken this way and are following it," he underscored.
