UN assistant secretary-general arrives in Ukraine
Assistant UN Secretary General, Assistant Administrator of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Director of UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS Kori Udovicki has arrived in Ukraine on an official visit.
According to Serhiy Hrytsenko, chief of the UNDP press service in Ukraine, the UN assistant secretary general will stay in Kyiv until May 22.
During the visit, K. Udovicki will meet with representatives of the Cabinet, Presidential Administration, international donors and partners of UNDP in Ukraine.
She intends to discuss with the authorities the priority areas of cooperation between the UN and Ukraine in the context of signing of a new framework program of UN aid to Ukraine, which outlines a plan of cooperation between the Cabinet and the organization in 2012-2016.
In addition, it is planned to discuss the role of UNDP in the context of achieving the Millennium Development Goals by Ukraine (8 international development goals that 192 United Nations Member States and international organizations have agreed to achieve by 2015).
K. Udovicki will draw particular attention of the authorities to the need for introducing initiatives to combat poverty, national projects for local development, public policy of ensuring equal rights for vulnerable population, increase in power efficiency of the national economy.
UN supports the initiative of Ukraine to hold an international conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster in 2011.
